History of Uley Surgery
Dr John Campbell first established a Medical Practice in Uley in the late 1890's. His practice was located in his own house that was situated near to the Brewery. His successor was Dr J E Fayrer Hosken, who took over the Practice in 1927. He lived and worked in Dr Campbell's old house before moving to Raglan House.
Towards the end of the Second World War, after distinguished war service in the Royal Air Force, Dr Huins took over the Practice at Raglan House. In 1961 Dr Alan Wootton joined him until Dr Huins' retirement in 1965. Dr Mary Wootton then joined her husband and the Practice moved to its current location at 42 The Street, Uley.
In 1987 Dr Stephen Alvis joined the Practice as a GP Partner to help with the ever increasing workload. When both Dr Alan Wootton and his wife Dr Mary Wootton retired in July 1991, Dr Jonathan Steel joined as a Partner. Dr Emily Wills joined the Practice as a Salaried Doctor to assist with the Practice workload.
